| In the late 1800's, the Seattle, Lakeshore and Eastern Railroad operated
carrying lumber from the woods around Fall City and Preston area. A trestle was
constructed over the raging river - it was 880 feet long and 110 feet high and built
entirely of wood. In May of 1900, the trestle collapsed, sending the engine and cars to
the bottom of the ravine, killing the engineer. The Museum has in its possession four
incredible photographs of the trestle and the aftermath of the collapse. Click hear to read more about the
trestle, and see other photos.
