Lucinda Fares was the first white woman in the Snoqualmie Valley. Lucinda and her husband Joseph Fares homesteaded the land now known as the Tollgate Farm, located between the cities of North Bend and Snoqualmie. She operated one of the first dairies in the Valley, selling her butter as far away as Issaquah. Shown here at her butter churn, Lucinda would sit down on her milk stool, call her cows by name and they would come in turn to be milked.
